Next Week is Homecoming Week!

Are you ready for Homecoming 2016? Get your run/walk shoes on for Saturday’s 5K to kick things off then, attend Open House, the Tailgate and celebrate at the Presidential Party! And … Yardfest is back!

Here are just a few highlights: (Full Calendar of Events)

Homecoming 5K | (THIS SATURDAY!) The 5K Race (walk/run) provides alumni, students and the community with an opportunity to engage in a day of fitness, fun and friendly competition while raising proceeds and awareness for a charitable organization of our choice. October 15th at 9:00 a.m. on campus. Register today!

Pep Rally | Students full of school spirit will gather to celebrate the kick-off of Homecoming Week. October 18th at 7:30 p.m., Greene Stadium.

Open House Schools and Colleges | Our Homecoming Open House will provide opportunities for alumni to come back and learn about what is happening at their school/college. Starts October 20-October 22 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. on campus.

LGBTA Renaissance Reception | The LGBTA Renaissance Reception is an official Howard University (HU) Homecoming event. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for Bison family and friends (Allies) to support their HU-LGBT brothers and sisters. October 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the Health Sciences Library. Register today!

State of the University | President Frederick will deliver an address on the State of the University at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on October 21st in the School of Business Auditorium, Main Campus. Please register to attend and/or to receive the LIVE WEBCAST link first.

The International Yardfest | This Homecoming, we will reinvigorate “Yardfest” by presenting a live stage featuring top tier artiste that will reach each demographic reflected in the Howard diaspora. “YardFest Is Back!!” October 21st at noon on campus.

Homecoming Tailgate | A time-honored tradition of Homecoming Weekend, the Tailgate is an engagement experience designed to provide alumni of all ages with an opportunity to recapture their Bison experience by coming together for food and music. October 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the Howard Center Lot. Spaces are sold out. Registration is not required to walk-in/attend.

Homecoming Football Game | North Carolina A&T Aggies vs. Howard Bison will be one of the signature games of the football season. Always a sell-out, this game will feature a special, half-time performance by the Showtime Marching Band.October 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Greene Stadium. Tickets and information.

Presidential Party | Hosted by Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, 17th president of Howard University and held at the Newseum, 555 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001; this party will include a private donor VIP reception starting at 7 p.m., and will then turn into a Homecoming party for friends and alumni, ending at 2 a.m. We will have a few, special, invited celebrity artists in addition to two celebrity DJs.

Ticket proceeds will be donated to Bridging the Gap Student Aid Campaign. Registrations required for admission. Beer and wine included, plus a cash bar. Attire is ‘cocktail chic.’ 21 and over only.

Alumni On the Move 10/12/2016 – Monique Saunders Patrick ’88
The CDC Foundation named a Monique Saunders Patrick ’88 as chief operating officer (COO). The COO role is a newly created position at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation. As the foundation has grown and its role serving the CDC continues to evolve, they felt that it was an appropriate time to bring on board a COO to help guide and carry out strategy. At Commencement President Obama Reminded Us All, “Not just hashtags, but votes.”
Howard University is continuing its long-standing tradition of advocating for voting rights and registration. By visiting http://www.howard.turbovote.org, students, faculty, staff and alumni are able to register in all states/territories and request absentee ballots. Additionally, TurboVote will send text and email reminders to users on pertinent deadlines.
HU School of Communications and the Howard University Radio Network Launch New Series
The Howard University School of Communications is proud to announce the October 13, 2016 launch of an exciting new series, From the Archives, on HBCU Sirius XM Channel 142, http://www.hbcuradionet.com/. This weekly hour-long series features tantalizing documentaries about a wide range of issues, including health care, the arts and politics. From the Archives also offers fascinating lectures by local and nationally known scholars/educators, and compelling stories by renowned professionals like artist/activist Harry Belafonte, award-winning journalist Wil Haygood, and novelist Natalie Baszile (Queen Sugar).
